APEC Climate Center (APCC) and Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) jointly held the capacity building workshop with the subject of “RCM Operation and Subseasonal-to-Seasonal (S2S) Forecast” for the staff from the Climatology and Agrometeorological Division of PAGASA from the 8th to the 10th of May, 2019 at APCC in Busan, Korea.
With the aim of strengthening the technical capacity on climate prediction for PAGASA, APCC shared its knowledge and expertise through the workshop.
With the support of APCC researchers, the staff from PAGASA had the opportunity to acquire the theoretical and practical knowledge to take advantage of the high resolution Regional Climate Model (RCM) applicable to the Philippines.
The participants were further introduced to the concept of S2S prediction, and the Boreal Summer Intraseasonal Oscillation (BSISO) which can be used as an important factor for S2S prediction. The workshop also included lectures on the impact of BSISO in the Philippines as well as on the understanding of real-time BSISO prediction.
