APEC Climate Center (APCC) held the 3^rd APCC Multi-Model Ensemble (MME) Model Providers’ Meeting (the Meeting) at the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) in Taipei, Taiwan between 5 and 6 June 2019. The Meeting was attended by representatives of the 11 climate prediction institutes (model providers) from 8 countries around the world that provide climate prediction models for APCC.

The Meeting was held to create an opportunity to enhance the reliability of climate prediction information by sharing the availability and verification results of the information produced by the APCC MME climate prediction system and the climate prediction systems of the 11 model providers.

The APCC MME Providers’ Meeting is held every other year.

The climate prediction experts present in the meeting shared and discussed issues related to the performance and improvements of their seasonal MME climate prediction systems as well as the APCC MME climate prediction system.

The meeting participants also talked about the possibilities of providing APCC’s seasonal prediction information early. They also discussed a variety of ways to improve the reliability of prediction information and to strengthen cooperation among the model providers. Finally, APCC requested the model providers at the meeting to participate in the production and provision of the Boreal Summer Intraseasonal Oscillation (BSISO) forecast information.

Right before the Meeting, APCC and CWB jointly hosted the ‘2019 International Workshop on Climate Prediction: Past, Present and Future’ from 3 to 4 June 2019 also at CWB. The workshop was held to share the current status of seasonal MME prediction systems around the world with the workshop participants and to discuss progress and challenge in climate modeling for Sub-Seasonal and Seasonal Ensemble prediction.
