The APEC Climate Center (APCC) and the Association of Korean Woman Scientists & Engineers (KWSE) cohosted the planning session of the second half academic conference of the Korea Society of Climate Change Research (KSCC) 2020 at the Jeju Oriental Hotel. This event was held as a hybrid on-offline event on November 6, 2020.

The planning session was held to share recent issues and research results on extreme climate events, which are rapidly increasing due to climate change, and also to hold in-depth discussions with participating experts for women scientists in the field of climate change research. With these topics, this event was designed to provide an opportunity for women scientists to expand and grow their networks.

This planning session consisted of two sessions. The first session was chaired by Dr. Won-Tae Kwon, APCC’s Executive Director, with the theme “understanding and forecasting extreme climate fluctuations”. The second session was chaired by Prof. June-Yi Lee. Pusan National University, with the theme “prospect and evaluation of extreme climate”.

This planning session is expected to expand opportunities for women scientists in the climate field to seek preemptive countermeasures for extreme climate events and to determine the government's climate change response policy.
