APCC, POSTECH and SPREP, to Jointly Held the 1st Joint Regional User-Training Workshop for Pacific Islands Climate Information Service

APEC Climate Center, Pohang University of Science Technology (POSTECH) and Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) jointly held ‘the 1st Joint Regional User-Training Workshop for Pacific Islands Climate Information Service’ in Nadi, Fiji from 28th February to 2nd March, 2023.
On the first day of the training workshop, lectures on climate prediction and PICASO training were given. On March 1st, lecturers from the 3 institutes such as APCC, etc. introduced the extended functions of PICASO and taught how to use them. During the practice session on March 2, the last day, they taught how to produce the climate outlook using PICASO.
This user-training workshop was held as part of the transformative programme, “Enhancing Climate Information and Knowledge Services for resilience in 5 island countries of the Pacific Ocean”, initiated by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP). APCC is participating in this programme as a technical partner.
Researchers from 3 different institutes aimed to promote the functional improvement of the Pacific Island Countries Advanced Seasonal Outlook (PICASO) system and focused on increasing the climate prediction & information utilization capabilities of Meteorological Services from around the Pacific Islands.
