The 2nd participating group joined in the Young Scientist Support Program (YSSP) 2018 between July 16th and 19th, 2018. The 2nd participating group consists of 4 researchers from Vietnam, China, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.

The APEC Climate Center (APCC) commenced The Young Scientist Support Program 2018 when Ms. Huong Thi Diem Nguyen from National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF), Vietnam joined it on July 2nd 2018.

The 1st participating researcher is Mr. Minh Truong Ha from the Vietnam Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology and Climate Change. He will conduct meteorological and climate reladed research at the APCC headquarters in Haeundae, Busan for 3 months from July 16th to October 1st , 2018. His research subject is ‘Evaluating some multi-model ensemble (MME) methods for seasonal prediction in Vietnam’. Dr. Soo-Jin Sohn from Prediction Research Team will be supervising his research as his mentor.

The 2nd participating researcher is Dr. Yujie Wu from National Climate Center, Chinese. He will conduct meteorological and climate reladed research at the APCC headquarters in Haeundae, Busan for 3 months from July 16th to October 11th , 2018. His research subject is ‘Assessment of multi-model ensemble seasonal prediction: the predictability of air temperature and rainfall in different regions of China’. Dr. Hongwei Yang from Climate Prediction Team will be supervising his research as his mentor.

The 3rd participating researcher is Dr. Donaldi Sukma Permana from the Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysical Agency(BMKG), Indonesia. He will conduct meteorological and climate reladed research at the APCC headquarters in Haeundae, Busan from July 16th to September 21st, 2018. His research subject is ‘Development of statistical downscaled-seasonal forecast for winter monsoon precipitation in Indonesia using APCC Multi-Model Ensemble’. Dr. Jaepil Cho, a team leader from Climate Service Development Team, will be supervising his research as his mentor.

The 4th participating researcher is Ms. Kila Kila from National Weather Service, Papua New Guinea. She will conduct meteorological and climate reladed research at the APCC headquarters in Haeundae, Busan for 3 months from July 19th to October 11th , 2018. Her research subject is ‘Improving Drought Response by examining past impacts on Water Resources in Port Moresby’. Dr. Sunkwon Yoon, a team leader from Integrative Climate Research Team, will be supervising her research as her mentor.

YSSP is designed to enhance the ability of early career scientists in developing countries to provide climate services using climate prediction information. It encourages the participants not only to utilize APCC data for their climate prediction and applications to agriculture and water resources management, but also to facilitate collaborative linkages between their home institutions, with other young scientists and APCC. APCC researchers will support them as a mentor during their stay in APCC.
