미국 해양대기청 (NOAA, National Oceaning and Atmospheric Administration)의 기후예측센터 (CPC, Climate Prediction Center)에서 Jae-Kyung E. Schemm 박사가 오는 3월 10일부터 12일까지 3일간 APEC 기후센터(APCC)를 방문한다.
Schemm 박사는 APCC 계절예측 검증 시스템에 관한 전반적인 자문을 하기 위해 센터를 방문하며, 3일간의 방문 기간 중 "Utility of the NOAA NMME Seasonal Predictions" 라는 주제로 세미나를 주재할 예정이다. Schemm 박사는 방문기간 중 CPC (Climate Preidction Center)의 기후모니터링 활동을 소개하고 계절예측 정보의 활용방안을 논의한다. 또한 CPC 예측검증 방법을 소개하고 APCC 다중모형 앙상블 검증시스템과의 연계 활용 방안 또한 고려할 예정이다. 계절 예측정보에 대한 확률론적 검증방법 도입에 대한 자문 세션도 진행될 예정이다.
APCC는 Schemme 박사와 계절예측 및 검증 시스템에 관한 논의와 자문을 통해 APCC 현업시스템을 점검 및 개선하고, 예측정보의 정확도 및 신뢰도를 제고할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다. Schemm 박사가 주재하는 세미나 일정은 아래와 같다.

4. Abstract
Following successful examples of operational MME prediction systems at APCC and European community, NMME system for seasonal/interannual climate prediction was initiated in 2011 as part of the NOAA Climate Test Bed (CTB) activities in collaboration with Environment Canada, NOAA/GFDL, NASA/GMAO, and NCAR. Based on two NOAA CTB workshops on NMME, a collaborative and coordinated implementation strategy for a NMME prediction system has been developed and experimental real-time prediction has commenced in August 2011. All contributing members agreed to adhere the protocol established by CPC to meet the CPC operational requirements by providing forecast/hindcast data by the 8th of each month. Also, the members are responsible for providing all necessary data and documents of their system upgrades every time they occur. During the Phase I, the project started with monthly mean forecast data for SST, precipitation and 2m temperature. The list of variables has increased since 2011 to include soil moisture, runoff, winds and heights at several levels. Further improvement is planned to support intraseasonal prediction activities in the Phase II in latter half of 2014. Details of the current NMME system will be presented along with its applications, performance evaluations and plans for future expansion.
