[Young Scientist Support Program 2011]
[Published 2 March 2012]
APCC invited 13 young scientists from National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) and research institutes in developing countries to support their research. The young scientists conducted their own research in APCC using APCC’s data, equipment and with support from APCC scientists and staff. Their research topics are related to climate prediction, climate change and climate informatics and applications. The topics covered are as follows;
• Investigation of the Rice Paddies Biophysical Effects on the Intraseasonal and Intradecadial Climate Predictions
• District-Based Climate Change Assessment and Adaptation Measures for Agriculture – A Case Study in Vietnam
• Development of the best model for prediction of monsoon rainfall over Nepal and Development model for prediction of rainfall as well as temperature to long range scale
• Modeling and Analysis of the Impact of Lakes on Local Climate in Yellow River Source Region in Tibetan Plateau
• Validation of the APCC Precipitation Forecasts by Using Hydrologic models
• Assessment of Climate Change and its Impact on Major Food Crops in Bangladesh
• Understanding of Climate data and it’s interlink with Socio-ecological and Ecological Vulnerability to address adaptation
• Multi-Scale Climate Variability from Tree-Ring Based on the EMD Method
• The Development of Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) and Climate Predictability Tool (CPT) in Indonesia
• Malaria Resurgence in Korea: Climatic Trends and Future Risk Areas
• Sea Surface Temperature in Global Climate Change: Past Recorded and Forecast Model to Predict Marine Species Invasion Across Latitudinal Gradient of Korean Peninsula and Japan Archipelago
• Forecasting Thailand subregional rainfall using statistical analyses of El Niño-Southern Oscillation indices, land cover characteristics, and radiative scattering strength of local aerosols
• Climate variability and seasonal predictability in Viet Nam: a statistical downscaling approach
With this opportunity, APCC contributed building capacity in research and human resources in developing countries and to extend APCC research areas to applications and other new topics.
All the materials of this program including the final report from participants and necessary information were uploaded at the APCC website for further use by the participants and for promoting the close network among them at http://trace.apcc21.net/en/labs.
