The APEC Climate Center (APCC) and Green Climate Fund (GCF) officially entered into a “Long-Term Agreement” (LTA) in November 2019 for the provision of expert services through the GCF Communities of Practice (CoP) in the sectoral and key thematic area of “Climate Information and Early Warning”.
The GCF CoP is comprised of 28 selected globally renowned expert organizations around the world, only six of which were selected to participate in the “Climate Information and Early Warning” sectoral and key thematic area. APCC was selected to be one of those six organizations alongside organizations like the UK Meteorological Office (UKMO) and the Swedish meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI). APCC is the only organization in Korea included in the GCF CoP.
Through creating this framework for CoP, the GCF hopes to “tap the expertise of global renowned organisations to deliver climate knowledge in support of GCF’s activities” and “leverage cutting edge climate knowledge to increase the impact of GCF’s climate finance investments”.
Participation in the GCF CoP provides APCC with the opportunity to build a strong network with the GCF and provide its climate information expertise to this organization so that the GCF can realize its mission to promote a paradigm shift to low-emission and climate-resilient development, taking into account the needs of nations that are particularly vulnerable to climate change impacts.
APCC hopes that its participation in this new framework will increase the impact and reach of its high quality climate information and services on a global level.
