APEC 기후센터 정진승 소장이 오는 1월 15일~16일에 대만에서 개최되는 국제학술회의 “2013 International Conference on Climate Change”에 참석한다. 정진승 소장은 이 학술회의의 ‘Project/Plan on Climate Change’를 논하는 첫 번째 주제 발표에서 APEC 기후센터의 향후 계획과 기후 정보 서비스에 대한 발표를 진행한다.

이번 국제 학술회의는 호주, 일본, 한국, 네덜란드, 영국, 미국 등에서 기후 전문가들이 모여 최근 동향과 실무진의 경험 및 지식 등을 발표할 예정이다. 이 회의의 주제는 기후 변화에 대응하기 위해 국가 차원에서 이 문제를 어떻게 다루는지에 관한 것이다.

APEC 기후센터의 정진승 소장은 한국을 대표하여 한국의 기후변화와 관련한 최신 연구 정보를 전달, 우리의 지식과 경험을 공유하고, 한국기후정보센터로서의 APCC의 향후 계획을 발표한다. 또한 APEC 기후센터의 기후연구와 예측을 위한 원스톱 데이터 센터(APCC Data Service System, ADSS), 온라인 기후정보 응용도구 (Climate Information Toolkit, CLIK), TRACE 등 APCC의 기후 정보 서비스에 대해 소개한다.

이번 국제 학술회의는 대만재난경감국립과학기술센터(Taiwanese National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction, NCDR)와 대만수자원부(Water Resource Agency)에서 주최하고 대만중앙기상부의 환경변화연구센터(Research Center for Environmental Change of the Central Weather Bureau, and Academia Sinica)에서 주관한다.

APCC was formally launched during the 13th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Busan, Korea in 2005. The mission of APCC is to strengthen scientific and technological cooperation across the APEC region in order to help economies and societies deal effectively with the consequences of current and future climate-related hazards through the provision of climate information, research and technical support.

Since APCC’s establishment, it has played an important role in providing high cost climate data and information by operating a real-time and well-validated climate prediction system based on a Multi-Model Ensemble (MME) technique. From 2009, APCC has widen its research areas to climate change and applications including projections of future climate changes, driving forces for the climate changes and its impacts on social and economic sectors such as agriculture, water resources, energy, industries, health, forest, etc.

Based on the experience of climate information service and climate change researches for last 8 years, APCC aims to play a role as Korean National Climate Data Center (K-NCDC) to maintain climate data archive and provide user-centered climatological services and data to every sector in Korean economy and to users worldwide in the future. As a foundation of K-NCDC, APCC has developed system and tools including APCC Data Service System (ADSS), Climate Information toolkit (CLIK) and TRAcking Center and Environmental changes (TRACE) to efficiently provide climate data and information to various end-users.
