APEC 기후센터 기후예측팀의 이두영 연구원이 오는 5월 13일부터 18일에 프랑스 툴루즈에서 개최되는 "계절 및 수십년 예측에 관한 국제 워크숍 (International Workshop on Seasonal to Decadal Prediction)"에 참석하여 계절 예측 향상과 관련하여 최근 저널이 채택한 이 박사의 연구 내용 및 성과를 발표할 예정이다.

이 박사는 “Improvement of Multi-Model Ensemble Seasonal Prediction Skill over the East Asian Summer Monsoon Region using a Climate Filter Concept”라는 제목으로 연구 내용을 발표하고 APCC의 기후예측 기술과 정보를 공유한다. 동시에 계절 및 수십년 주기의 시간 규모에 대한 최근 연구 동향 및 최신 예측 기술 등을 파악할 계획이다.

이두영 박사의 발표 내용은 아래와 같다.

: Improvement of multi-model ensemble seasonal prediction skill over the East Asian summer monsoon region using a climate filter concept

▶ Abstract:

We propose the use of a “climate filter” concept to enhance the prediction skill of a multi-model ensemble (MME) suite for East Asian summer monsoon (EASM) precipitation and temperature at 850 hPa. The method envisages grading models based on the degree of reproducibility of the association of EASM variability with a few relevant climate drivers using the respective model hindcast for the period from 1981-2003. Our analysis identifies the previous winter Nino 3.4 and spring North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) indices as the most suitable climate drivers for designing a climate filter for evaluating models that replicate the observed teleconnections to EASM well. Our results show that the hindcast skill of a new MME with the better performing models is significantly higher than that from the non-performing models or from an all-inclusive operational MME.
