APEC Climate Center (APCC) has launched a prototype fire risk information service for SEA (Southeast Asia) Fire and Haze Early Warning on January, 2017 on its website (http://www.apcc21.org/ser/sea.do?lang=en). From April to July every year, the service predicts the possibility of fire and haze outbreaks between August and October annually by utilizing 6 month precipitation prediction information. This prediction information aims to support disaster managers and policymakers to make decisions for preventing and reducing disasters caused by fire and haze in these areas.

Firstly, APCC investigated the correlation between carbon emissions and precipitation during past fire outbreaks in 4 areas (Barat, Tengah. Selatan, Timur) of Borneo, Indonesia that are vulnerable to fire and haze disasters. Afterwards, it classified the risk of forest fire into 4 levels (Low, Moderate, High, Extreme) by utilizing 6 month precipitation prediction information, allowing disaster managers and policy makers to easily understand and utilize fire risk information, offered through the prototype fire risk information service for SEA Fire and Haze Early Warning.

The prototype fire risk information service for SEA Fire and Haze Early Warning provides user friendly information such as fire risk information for disaster managers and policymakers in Southeast Asia. APCC would like to help them predict the high risk conditions that are vulnerable to forest fires weeks or months in advance, and then take preemptive actions for prevention and reduction of fire and haze damage.
