APEC 기후센터 (APCC) 대외협력실 양형근 실장과 Nina Horstmann이 4월 9일부터 3일간 인도네시아 수라바야에서 개최되는 APEC 과학기술혁신정책파트너십(APEC Policy Partnership on Science, Technology, and Innovation, PPSTI) 회의에 참석한다.

Ms. Horstmann은 이번 회의에서 APCC 주관으로 지난해 10월 러시아 샹뜨페테르부르크에서 열린 2012년도 APEC 기후심포지엄의 성과를 발표한다. (발표 요약본은 아래에서 확인할 수 있다.)

이번 회의는 APEC의 과학기술혁신정책파트너십(PPSTI)의 첫 번째 회의다. PPSTI는 산업과학기술실무그룹(ISTWG)의 새로운 이름으로 민간 분야의 참여를 확대하고 혁신을 강조하며 지난해 43차 ISTWG 회의에서 탄생했다. 이번 회의 기간에 APEC 회원국들은 새롭게 구성된 PPSTI의 중기계획 및 조직에 대해 논의한다.

PPSTI에서 APCC는 APEC 회원국의 과학 기술분야에 종사하는 전문가들을 만나 의견을 주고 받고 그들의 혁신적인 과학 기술 동향에 대해 배우는 자리가 될 것이다. 또한 APEC 기후센터는 센터의 임무와 활동에 대해 소개할 수 있는 좋은 기회가 될 것으로 보인다.

PPSTI 회의에 참석한 후, APCC 대표단은 4월 12일 자카르타에 위치한 인도네시아 기상청을 방문할 계획이다. 이번 방문에서 APCC와 인도네시아 기상청은 인도네시아 기상청에서 열리는2013년도 APEC 기후심포지엄에 대해 논의한다. APCC는 인도네시아 기상청 측에 주제 및 일정 등의 전반적인 내용을 공유하고 세부적인 내용까지 함께 조율한다는 계획이다.

The APEC Climate Symposium (APCS) is an annual event, held since 2005 with the establishment of APCC. As the APEC Climate Center strives to be more responsive to the needs of the APEC member economies, we have begun to expand activities past climate prediction to climate applications. APCS 2012 was held under the theme “Harnessing and Using Climate Information for Decision Making” in St. Petersburg, Russia. The event brought together around 80 scientists, representatives of National Hydrological and Meteorological Services, academics, policy-makers and students from around the world to discuss climate prediction and its applications for the agriculture sector. The conference aimed to link climate prediction to agricultural applications through sessions such as “Bridging the Information Gap”, “Case Studies and User Experiences” and “State-of-the-art Climate Prediction for Agriculture”.
