The APEC Climate Center Strengthened the Climate Cooperation Partnership and Climate Change Response with the Vanuatu Government and Its Local Communities

Dr. Jong Ahn Chun (Research Fellow) and  Dr. Seongkyu Lee (Research Fellow) of the APEC Climate Center (hereinafter referred to as APCC) visited senior cabinet members and key working-level officials of the Vanuatu government and its local communities. between  13th and 25th of April, 2024 to hold a 'Cooperation Meeting to Strengthen Climate Cooperation Partnership and Climate Change Response'.

 

APCC implemented the Vanuatu Klaemet Infomesen blong Redy, Adapt mo Protekt (Van-KIRAP)’s joint agricultural climate risk management initiatives, funded by UN's Green Climate Fund (GCF), between 2018 and 2023. Van-KIRAP aims to promote the application of climate information in the five climate change sensitive sectors of Vanuatu, including tourism, agriculture, infrastructure, water resources and fisheries. 
 
During this visit, Both Dr. Jong Ahn Chun and  Dr. Seongkyu Lee, APCC's Research Fellows, held meetings with high-ranking ministerial and working-level officials of Vanuatu government to promote Vanuatu's follow-up project (Van-KIRAP-II). The specific supports and cooperation measures of the Vanuatu government were discussed.

 

In addition, they discussed with local officials the selection of pilot villages and various crop experiments for the follow-up project (Van-KIRAP-II). They intended to strengthen climate cooperation by establishing a close partnership with the Vanuatu government and its local communities.
