Twelve government officers from various African Meteorological Departments visited APEC Climate Center (APCC) Headquarters on October 25, 2012 to learn about APCC’s research and information products. Participants gathered in the Lotus Room, APCC Headquarters, to benefit from the capacity-building lectures.

As one of the sub-modules of a 3-week KMA training program, APCC researchers delivered lectures on climate variability and its impacts, the APCC Multi-Model Ensemble (MME) forecast, and APCC climate prediction techniques, as well as hands-on session on the APCC Climate Information Tool Kit (CLIK). The presentation topics were as follows:

- Variability of Indo-Pacific SST forcing and its Influences on Asian Monsoon Climate

- Introduction to APCC Multi-Model Ensemble Climate Prediction by Dr. Soo-Jin Sohn

- APCC Global Climate Prediction Model by Dr. Bong-Geun Song

- Regional Climate Modeling at APCC by Dr. Hongwei Yang

- Introduction of CLIK and Hands-on Session by Ms. Hye-Jin Park

The aim of this training program, organized by KMA and sponsored by KOICA, was for the participants to acquire the capabilities necessary for climate prediction operations and to gain a deeper understanding of the impacts of climate and climate change, as well as the relevant analytical skills.
